World March of Women International Secretariat Statement of Solidarity in support of Kenyan World March of Women Activities
Dear Kenyan World March of Women sisters,
We are once again inspired by your courage and strength as organised women. Your belief in the possibility of a world of equality between women and men – free from physical, sexual and state violence – in which all have the opportunity to exercise their democratic and political rights is an example to us all. Your resistance and perseverance motivates your sisters around the world, and we stand in solidarity with you as you call on sisters and brothers to ensure a peaceful referendum on the 4th August.
We, the International Secretariat of the World March of Women (WMW), send you our support for your upcoming national activities in the knowledge that it is through our organisation and unity as women that we will achieve the transformations we desire in the lives of all.
We look forward to welcoming the Caravan of Kenyan sisters in Bukavu, Democratic Republic of Congo for the Closing Event of the WMW’s 3rd International Action from the 13th – 17th October. Your presence is fundamental as we join together to draw the world’s attention to the extreme violence suffered by women and girls in the DRC, to strengthen the protagnism of sisters in the struggle for a lasting and active peace and for the reconstruction of their country, and to call for an end to the militarisation of all societies and communities.
Women of Kenya… Backbone of Peace!
Women on the March until we are All Free!
In feminist solidarity,
World March of Women International Secretariat
São Paulo, Brazil, 3rd August 2010
