WMW activities during Social Forum in Mexico reinforces international action

From May 2nd to 4th 2010, in Mexico City, Mexico, the Thematic World Social Forum will take place: “From the people, other solutions to the world crisis are possible”, that will deal with the alternatives for building “another possible world” against capitalism, the neoliberal model and the multidimensional crisis caused by this system.

3. Participative democracy and human rights
4. Inclusive society – social rights
5. New social culture
   

Gladys Alfaro, from Chiapas, and member of the WMW-IC, explains that "this Forum is a civil society initiative; no parties or church organized it. For Mexico it’s an achievement to be able to make this Forum specially in face of impunity that exists in Mexico and that can paralyze civil society". A sad recent example of it is what happened to our sister Betty Cariño, director of CACTUS and a member of the indigenous community radios from the southeast of Mexico network, that was killed while she participated in a humanitarian caravan with international observers, human right’s advocates, journalists, teachers, and members of several organization from Oaxaca that was going to the autonomous community of San Juan Copala and were ambushed by a group of armed men, causing many wounded and presumably killed.
There is no official information about the number of wounded and killed, because the local government has refused to enter the zone. The federal government refuses the demand of several civil society organizations, from deputies and senators to enter and help the victims. 
The World March of Women is organizing in the Mexican WS Forum the Women’s Tent, called “strategies from women”, with the goal of contributing to the construction of a women’s movement using the strategic articulation action from different movements and/or women experiences, looking to achieve a full exercise of our citizenship and the strength to influence social and political policies to transform the social and economic model of national and international people.
