France: Night Women's Protest repressed in Toulouse
State Police instigators of violence: no dialogue, they hit hard! The manifestation in Toulouse was held on 6th March
From a Bagdam protester: A protester whose "crime" was to have made some tags in the rue du Taur was severely pinned down on the ground in the middle of the crowd, her head crushed by the foot of a policeman of the Anti Criminal Brigade (BAC, State Police). Several women who were trying to talk to them and asked them to stop this violence were injured by these policemen apparently unable to dialogue and that gave the impression of lacking the most basic control of themselves. They intend to complain. The demonstration was followed by 2 journalists from France 3 Sud.
From an activist of the WMW 31: At this event at least three women were injured. Two of us have spent part of the night in the emergency at the Hospital of Rangueil. We intend to file a complaint so we must check how to implement this complaint.
Our demonstration against violence against women is more relevant than ever. The only women night demonstration in Toulouse on March 6th has been repressed by police while peacefully, we asked for the right to go out at night, of walking freely, without facing any risk. 8th March, 2010 will be remembered as proof that our struggles are still to be carried out. The macho, sexists, are everywhere and there are many in professions that are supposedly there to protect us.
