100 Years of International Women’s Day: “Building Women’s Solidarity in a Time of Crises”

The media are asked to publicize the centenary of International
Women’s Day which is on the 8 March 2010. A hundred years after the
Call for an International Women’s Day the majority of South African women
are plagued by high levels of unemployment, poverty, domestic
violence, lack of access to housing and other services critical to
their survival. We find ourselves in the midst of multiple crises of
food, energy and the economy.

On Sunday March 7th 2010 women activists from across Cape Town will
come together to reflect on the multiple crises facing women in South
Africa under the banner of the World March of Women (WMW).  We urge
the media to cover the event:

Date:  Sunday 07 March 2010
Time:  09.00am – 3.30pm
Venue:  SACTWU Hall, 350 Victoria Road, Industria House, Salt River

The World March of Women (WMW) is an international feminist action
movement connecting grass-roots groups and organisations working to
eliminate the causes at the root of poverty & violence against women.
The following organisations have been involved with organising the
event:  South African Domestic Service & Allied Workers Union
(SADSAWU); The International Labour Research & Information Group
(ILRIG); Women on Farms Project (WFP); Triangle Project; Trust for
Community Outreach & Education (TCOE); Sex Worker Education and
Advocacy Taskforce (SWEAT); Sakhulwazi; Women in Action (Mitchells
Plain); Alternative Information & Development Centre (AIDC); Labour
Research Services (LRS).
