Turkey: Participation of the WMW in "Diyarbakir Women City".

On 5th March evening a reception was given to the women representatives of NGOs, unions, Women Organisations, women mayors, women parliamentarians, etc. A concert also took place. The following two days, on the 6th and 7th March, many panels, seminars, forums, concerts, events, exhibitions, theatres, etc were held. At last, on the 8th March a big Women Demonstration was held. Totally tousands of women attended all the activities and the 8th March Demonstration. 

In a speech the Kurdish women declared their positions about WMW and that they will participate the WMW in Istanbul at the end of June 2010.

The main objectives of the activities were:

• to raise the awareness about violence against women

• about war between Kurdish and Turkish side which damages the women and children

• to call upon the State to take urgent actions to stop violence against women and to start a dialogue for peace and democratic solution of Kurdish questions.

As many women members of former DTP (ex-mayors, mayors, members of municipality councils of DTP and BDP, women council, etc) are in the prison since 14th April 2009, also all the women called for the State to release them immediately.
